Brush clearing and underbrush clearing on small acreage

Brush clearing takes overgrowth off open ground, like a lot or an old pasture. Underbrush clearing opens up wooded ground under the bigger trees. Both take out the brush and small trees that keep you off your own land.

Our skid steer carries a mulching head that grinds brush and small trees where they stand. In the woods we run a zero tail swing excavator. Its back end stays within the width of its tracks when it swings, so it can work close to trees.

Longer jobs can bring in a midsize excavator of about 40,000 pounds. We also run a finishing dozer for ground that needs grading once the clearing is done.

What happens to the brush after land clearing?

Where it fits, we mulch the brush in place with the mulching head. The mulch stays on the ground as a layer over the soil. It is the same forestry mulching we do on trails and around ponds.

Mulching in place also lines up with Texas burning rules around Katy. In Fort Bend and Harris Counties, the state allows burning land-clearing brush only when no practical alternative exists. Its outdoor burning guide lists mulching among those alternatives.

When brush removal means material has to leave the site, we load it onto trucks. The trucking is arranged for the job, and the written quote shows where the brush goes.

Pasture clearing and lot clearing around Katy, Texas

Katy sits on the Texas coastal prairie. The extension service names pastures among the places Chinese tallow becomes a problem there. Pasture clearing opens that ground back up for cattle. Where brush has grown into the wire, fence line clearing gives the fence a clean lane.

Lot clearing gets a build site ready for a future house. Homeowners in neighborhoods bring us in to take back an overgrown backyard. Inside Katy city limits, the city code requires owners to keep a lot clear of brush. It counts uncared-for trees and shrubs under 7 feet as brush.

We also clear land before it goes up for sale, and we open areas so owners can see wildlife. Our service area centers on Katy, Texas and runs north to Hempstead and south to Sargent. Check the towns we serve to see if your land is in range.

How We Work

How a Job With Florida's Contracting Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

1

Call or text

Call or text (979) 824-2296 and tell us what the land needs and where it is.

2

We look at the job

We come out to see the ground and how the machines get in. Point out any buried lines of your own, like the line to a water well or a barn.

3

The written quote

You get the quote in writing. Once you say yes, we set a date for the work.

4

The work

Brush gets mulched in place where that fits, and the digging follows the plan in the quote. Anything headed off the site gets loaded onto trucks we arrange.

5

Ready for what comes next

We clean up when the machines are done. The ground is then ready for its next use, like a house pad or a new fence.

FAQ

Land Clearing Questions, Answered

Common questions about land clearing around Katy and the west side of Houston. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (979) 824-2296

What size land clearing jobs do you take on?
Our land clearing work is sized for lots and small acreage of about 10 acres or less. A neighborhood backyard fits, and so does a small cattle pasture. Call or text (979) 824-2296 with the size of your property.
How much does land clearing cost?
The price depends on the acreage and how thick the brush is. Tree size and access to the property change it too. So does whether the brush is mulched in place or loaded onto trucks. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Can you clear the underbrush and keep the bigger trees?
Yes. Underbrush clearing takes out the brush and small trees under the bigger ones. Show us the trees you want kept, and we clear around them. If the clearing runs up to a property line, have a surveyor mark it first.
Do I need a permit to clear my land?
Inside city limits the city's permit office decides, and each county sets its own rules outside them. Outside city limits in Fort Bend County, a county permit is needed for work in a mapped floodplain. One is also needed when fill or digging changes the ground level by 6 inches or more. Clearing that disturbs an acre or more of soil can fall under the state's construction stormwater permit too.
Do I need to call 811 before land clearing?
Texas law calls for a notice to Texas 811 before most machine digging 16 inches or deeper. The notice goes in at least 48 hours ahead, with weekends and legal holidays left out of the count. The state's pipeline safety agency recommends the call before any digging. Point out private lines that serve only your property, like a water well line, before work starts.
Can you clear a lot for a new house?
Yes. Lot clearing takes the brush and small trees off the build site first. Mark where the house and the drive will sit, so the cleared area fits the plan. The house pad and the grading come next, and both are part of our dirt work.
