Old barbed wire sags, and the cows find the gap. Florida's Contracting builds and rebuilds ranch fencing on farms and ranches around Katy, Texas. We set pipe posts and build H-braces, with corner braces where the line turns. Barbed wire or field wire goes on last, stretched tight.
When brush has grown over the old line, it gets cleared first. Our fence line clearing work opens a clean lane for the new fence. We build runs of a thousand feet of fence across the west and south sides of the Houston area. We also drive pipe for owners who string their own wire.
Tell us about the land, the fence or the drainage problem and where it is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Braces take the pull of the stretched wire. The USDA's fence specification for Texas calls braces the foundation the fence is built on. It requires a brace where a fence starts or stops, and at any turn of 20 degrees or more.
That spec spaces the two posts of a single H-brace at least twice the fence height apart. A stretch over 660 feet between corners or ends calls for a three-post brace, such as a double H-brace. Runs past 1,320 feet add a pull brace near the middle. Where the braces go depends on your corners and the length of each run.
Barbed wire or field wire goes up once the braces stand. The wire is stretched tight before it is fastened to the posts. The spec notes that wire tightens in cold weather and slackens in the heat. It points to woven field wire where you need tight control, such as goats and sheep.
It depends on the ground and the post. The same spec sets a 5-foot minimum depth for driven pipe 2 3/8 inches across. Larger driven pipe, from 2 7/8 to 4 1/2 inches, goes at least 4 feet. The spec adds that sandy soil and ground that stays wet need extra depth.
Two common soils in this part of Texas act differently. Federal soil surveys map Katy fine sandy loam on the flats, mainly from the Brazos River to the San Jacinto. Lake Charles clay, mapped mainly between the Colorado and Trinity Rivers, cracks up to 2 inches wide when dry. Water pours into those cracks, then barely moves once the wet clay closes them.
We look at the ground on your line before we put the quote in writing. Show us any buried line that serves only your place, like the one to a barn or a well. Texas 811 does not mark private lines like those.
A new fence needs a clean, open line. The USDA spec lists tree and limb removal as part of fence upkeep. It also calls for keeping woody growth out of the fence. On a grown-over line, the clearing comes first and the posts come after.
When land clearing in Katy opens new pasture for cattle, ranch fencing comes next. An old fence can be rebuilt on the same line or on a new line you choose. Barbed wire fence installation starts at the braces, since the wire is stretched between them. Tell us where the corners sit, and we build the braces there.

Brush gets mulched in place where that fits, and the digging follows the plan in the quote. Anything headed off the site gets loaded onto trucks we arrange.
We clean up when the machines are done. The ground is then ready for its next use, like a house pad or a new fence.
