Fence repair or a new privacy fence?

When the damage sits in one or two sections and the posts nearby are sound, a repair makes sense. We take out the damaged section and replace it, and the rest of the fence stays up.

A fence that leans along its whole length is a different job. When most posts are soft at the ground, a patch only moves the problem down the line. At that point, a new privacy fence is usually the better fix.

For privacy fence installation, we build new wood fence with a rot board along the bottom. That board sits at ground level, so the pickets above it stay off the wet dirt. With the quote in writing, you can weigh a repair against a new fence.

Why do wood fences in Katy lean and rot?

Wood rots where it stays wet. Heavy clay is common on the coastal prairie around Katy. Once that clay is wet, water moves through it very slowly. A yard that holds water along the fence keeps the posts and the bottom boards damp.

That clay also moves. It cracks open in dry spells, and the cracks close again when the rain comes back. Over time, that movement can work a fence post loose until the line starts to lean.

Storms finish the job. Hurricane season runs June through November, and strong wind pushes hard on a solid wood fence. A loose or rotten post is usually the first to give. If water stands along your fence, a French drain can carry it away before new posts go in.

Shared fences and HOA rules around Katy

In many Katy neighborhoods, houses sit close together and one fence divides two backyards. A shared fence repair goes smoother when both owners agree on the plan first. The written quote gives you both the same picture of the work.

Before a new privacy fence goes up, read your HOA's rules on height and style. Some neighborhoods ask for approval before work starts, so it pays to ask early. Inside city limits, the city's permit office decides whether a fence needs a permit; outside them, the county does.

A Katy mailing address does not settle which office covers your lot, so we point you to the right one. Rules differ from town to town. In Fulshear, a fence over six feet tall needs a fence permit from the city. Inside the City of Katy, the zoning code keeps fences out of the visibility triangle at street corners.

Call or text (979) 824-2296 and tell us what the land needs and where it is.

2

We look at the job

We come out to see the ground and how the machines get in. Point out any buried lines of your own, like the line to a water well or a barn.

3

The written quote

You get the quote in writing. Once you say yes, we set a date for the work.

4

5

Ready for what comes next

We clean up when the machines are done. The ground is then ready for its next use, like a house pad or a new fence.

FAQ

Privacy Fence Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about privacy fence repair around Katy and the west side of Houston. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (979) 824-2296

How much does privacy fence repair cost?
The price depends on how many feet of fence need work and whether the posts are still sound. For a new fence, the length of the run and the height drive most of it. A tight side yard can add time too. We look at the fence and put the quote in writing, so you see the price before work starts.
Can you replace just one damaged section?
Yes. We replace single damaged sections of wood privacy fence. When we look at the job, we check the posts on each side too. A weak post can pull a new section out of line.
What is a rot board?
A rot board is a board that runs along the bottom of a wood fence, under the pickets. It keeps the pickets up off the dirt, where they would soak up moisture and rot. When the rot board wears out, it is easier to replace than a row of pickets.
Can you fix a fence after a storm knocks it down?
Yes. Storm-damaged fence is part of our privacy fence repair work. If the posts held and only boards came down, a section repair may cover it. If posts snapped or pulled out of the ground, those sections need new posts too.
Do I need to call 811 before a new fence goes in?
Texas law requires notice to Texas 811 at least 48 hours before powered digging 16 inches or deeper. Weekends and legal holidays do not count toward those 48 hours. The state's pipeline safety agency recommends a call before any digging. Private lines, such as sprinkler lines, are not marked, so point them out before post holes go in.
Do you repair fences outside Katy?
Yes. We work across the west side of Houston, in towns such as Fulshear, Sugar Land, Rosenberg and Sealy. The full list is on our service areas page. Call or text (979) 824-2296 to have us look at your fence.
