Land clearing in Brookshire is the first step when a lot or tract has grown up in brush. The town sits on flat prairie ground in Waller County, just west of Katy on I-10. Its 77423 ZIP code covers about 149 square miles, most of it outside the city limits. On ground this flat, rain stands in low spots, so clearing and drainage often go together.
Florida's Contracting and Land Services is a land clearing and excavation company in Texas. We serve Katy, Texas and the west side of Houston, and Brookshire is part of our service area. Here we take on land clearing for lots and small acreage and forestry mulching on overgrown tracts. Call or text (979) 824-2296, and we look at the job and put the quote in writing.

Most of the ground in and around Brookshire maps as Katy fine sandy loam on federal soil surveys. It is nearly level, and most of it slopes less than 1 percent. The top 18 to 30 inches is sandy loam over a clay loam subsoil that water moves through slowly. Some nearby ground maps as the Cyfair-Katy complex, rated somewhat poorly drained.
In wet spells, water can perch on that subsoil within 5 to 30 inches of the surface. That is why a side yard or a low corner can stay soggy after a storm. French drain installation gives that water a path out of the yard. Texas law bars diverting surface water in a way that damages a neighbor's property.
Brookshire Creek and its West Fork run through the city, and Bessies Creek runs west of town. FEMA puts about 13 percent of the city in the 1 percent annual chance floodplain, with floodways along Brookshire Creek. In a mapped flood zone outside the city, the county requires a floodplain permit before building or fill. The city has a flood zone permit of its own.
Inside the city limits, the City of Brookshire's permitting and development office takes the applications. Its forms cover driveways, culverts, fences, demolition and flood zone work. The city's permit application states that all permits require a final inspection.
A city building permit also waits on approval from the Brookshire-Katy Drainage District and the water district. The drainage district oversees drainage in the southeast part of Waller County. It says any construction or development inside its boundaries may require a district permit. Your county appraisal record shows whether a tract sits in the district.
Outside the city, Waller County permits any new or modified driveway onto a county road. Roads with FM or US numbers, like FM 359 and US 90, are maintained by TxDOT. TxDOT permits driveways onto those roads. Our part is the driveway culvert installation: we set the pipe and shape the approach.
Brookshire grew from two town plats filed in 1893, Kellner and Brookshire. The Census Bureau counted 5,066 people here in 2020, and its 2025 estimate is about 6,090. The city expects more growth as Houston spreads west and Katy and Fulshear keep growing.
Census survey data shows about half the homes in the city are detached houses. About one in five is a mobile home. The median home was built in 1988, and about a third went up before 1980.
Older houses and barns come down when a lot gets a new start. The city's demolition checklist asks for an asbestos report and a recent survey. It also asks whether utilities will be affected. Our house and barn demolition work loads the debris out and can level the ground afterward.
The city points to a long history of farming and ranching, with open grassland suited to cattle. Waller County had 1,545 farms in the 2022 farm census, and most were 10 to 49 acres. Pasture covered more than half of the county's farmland. Our land clearing fits tracts of 10 acres or less, for cattle pasture or a homesite.
A mulching head on a skid steer grinds brush and saplings where they stand. On a permitted build inside the city, the forms ask that tree cuttings and brush leave the site. In that case we load the material out, and the trucking is arranged.
Bigger clearing jobs can bring rules of their own. State stormwater rules can apply once a project disturbs an acre or more of soil. The drainage district also lists clearing and grubbing plans among its application types for tract development.
We also clear fence lines and build new ranch fence on pasture ground. A stock pond or a house pad can follow once the ground is open.
